Visual Checks

Colour Perception Test (Ishihara Plates)

This test assesses colour perception ability, mainly to screen colour vision deficit of any type (usually red-green). It is performed using specific colour plates (Ishihara), which show numbers or shapes that can only be distinguished if colour perception is normal.

Stereoscopic Vision Testing

Assesses depth and distance perception, i.e. the ability of the eyes to work together for three-dimensional vision. It is particularly important for children, drivers and occupations require accurate visual spatial perception.

Ocular Surface Screening

Includes:

Schirmer Test: Measuring tear production and diagnose dry eye.

BUT (Break-Up Time): Checking the stability of the tear layer, showing how quickly tears evaporate. It is carried out by instilling a special dye (fluorescein) and testing in the slit lamp.

Control and treatment of blepharitis:
Blepharitis is a chronic inflammation of the eyelids that can cause itching, irritation, dry eyes and discomfort. The patient suffers from the disease for years before they show symptoms. This inflammation usually results in the blockage of the orifices of the Meibomian Glands located in the eyelids and the reduction of the lipid layer of tears (secreted by these glands). Although it is a common condition, requires skilled care and appropriate treatment to be effectively dealt with. Treatment includes cleaning and hygiene of the eyelids, medication or special treatments in the private practice depending on the clinical picture of the patient.
